Who are these children?
The majority of the visitors to the Pattaya Home for Street Children are older children, teenagers and young adults.
Many of these children and young adults travel to Pattaya from all corners of Thialand for different reasons. Many have run away from their homes due to abuse, neglect or poverty. Many think they will have a better chance of getting work in Pattaya. Unfortunately for these children, they have difficulty in getting work due to their age. Many end up being exploited by both Thais and foeigners, having to work in bars and clubs, or begging on the streets.
What does the Pattaya Home offer?
The Pattay Home aims to be a place where street children who are in need can come for help. For these children, we offer:
- A safe environment in which to live and sleep.
- Medical help and advice as most of children who come to the Pattaya Home cannot fford hospital treatment.
- Food. No chld should ever have to go to sleep hungry and we provide three nutritious meals a day.
- Short vocational couses so the older children and young adults can be trained and be better prepared to find employment.
- Advice on many subjects, from law to health to hygiene and employment.
What kind of health services are provided to the children?
Many of the children at the Pattaya Home may have lived for long periods of time on the streets and have been unable to afford medial help. Skin and chest infections are common, as are secually transmitted diseases.
The Pattaya Home is now visited daily by a qualified nurse who can provide any first aid treatments that are required. Many of the young children have lived without medical assistnce for long periods of time and many of them live with infections and diseases. They many come to us with very little knowledge of basic hygeine, so we teach them how to live a healthy life.
How long do the children stay at the Pattaya Home?
The Pattaya Home for Street Children is not a long-term home. It is a safe haven where the children can find refuge on a temporary basis.
- If one of the children wants to return to their home, after living rough in Pattaya, arrangements will be made for them to return home.
- Children committed to taking vocational training at a local vocational college can stay up to two years.
